とどろき ～ 平成１９年６月
この『とどろき』という冊子は、仏教の教えを解説されたものですが、若者の読者も多いようです。
今月号の「いきいき読者」というコーナーには、自分と同世代らしい方が紹介されていたので、親近感がわきました。「真実の幸福になるために大切な健康を守る“食”」と題し、サプリメントやオリーブ油などの輸入販売をしている方のインタビューです（たぶんこの会社？同姓同名の可能性ありますが）。興味深かったのは、「仏法とのご縁はいつごろ？」の問いに対し、こう答えておられるところです。
「１０年ほど前です。当時、バンドでドラムを叩いていましたが、仲間との関係に疲れていました。飲み会で必ず、そこにいない友達の陰口が始まるんです。『何やってるんだろう？』って思いました。そんな時、仏教聞かないかと誘ってくれた人が、すごく温かく自分を受入れてくれたんです。とてもうれしくて、“仏教を聞いている人はどこか違うな”とおもいました」
ほお、この方はバンド経験者か、しかも東京・神田付近での取材とは、もしかしてすれ違っているかも、なんて思ってしまいました。「添加物のうまみは、味覚を破壊します。本当においしいものって、滋養に富んだものなんですよ」との言葉に反省させられました。「身体は食べ物によって作られる」と言われます。ちょっと、自分の食生活を改善しようかな、と思わずにおれない記事でした。さて、「孤独のメッセージ」という巻頭では、色々な例を挙げて、人間は本質的に孤独であることが論じられています。中でも、曲の歌詞を題材にしているところが心に残りました。もしかして編集者は音楽好きなのかと思ってしまいました。たとえば、こんな感じです。
男は難破して一人、無人島にたどり着いた。耐え難い孤独から、ビンにＳＯＳを詰めて海へ流す。返事はしかし、１年たっても届かない。こうなることは、うすうす分かっていたが、彼は落胆を隠せなかった。
ところがある朝、信じられない光景が男の前に広がっていた。手紙が詰まったおびただしい数のビンが海岸に押し寄せ、打ち上げられていたのだ。彼は悟った。
“孤独なのはおれだけではなかったんだ”
今年、２０年ぶりに再結成したイギリスのロックバンド、ポリスが、『孤独のメッセージ』（『Message In A Bottle』詞・スティング）で歌っている物語です。
耐え難い寂しさの中、男が世界中に発したのは「自分はここにいる」というメッセージでしょう。海岸に打ち寄せる無数のビンを見て彼は、孤独なのは自分だけではないと気づきます。（後略）

こんなに近いのに何て離れているんだ。僕らは明日がいい日だと信じている。眠りにつこうと横たえた身体はこんなに近いのに、心は遠いんだ」
肉体の連れがないことだけが「孤独」ではありません。身体はそばにいても、心が遠く感じられる。互いの一挙一動に注意を凝らし、本心をうかがおうとしますが、雲をつかむような思いばかりが胸を覆うのです。

肉体の連れがないことだけが「孤独」ではありません。身体はそばにいても、心が遠く感じられる。互いの一挙一動に注意を凝らし、本心をうかがおうとしますが、雲をつかむような思いばかりが胸を覆うのです。
に、「So Close」は DARYL HALL & JOHN OATES の『Change of Season』に収録されていますが、どちらも渋いですね。確かに、有名なミュージシャンほど孤独な魂を抱えている……というか、その思いを赤裸々に表現するから人々に感動を与えるのではないか、と思いました。優れた芸術家ほど、「理解」や「共感」を得られず、誰もわかってくれない、という悩みは尽きないのではないでしょうか。
ここで、ふと思い出したのが我が敬愛する ディオ様の「Rock’n'Roll Children」です。曲の感じといい、「Rock’n'roll children. Alone again. Rock’n'roll children. Without a friend but they got rock’n'roll」あたりの歌いまわしに孤独を感じてしまいます。
